The Saint Stephens Indian School drum group celebrated Native American Heritage Month in a special way. They traveled from Saint Stephens, Wyoming, on the Wind River Reservation to Washington D.C. to participate in the Department of Interior’s 2024 National Native American Heritage Month celebration streamed nationwide for the department’s employees. The day's theme was "Weaving Together Our Past, Present and Future."

Four male teenagers stand in a row in front of a blue curtain and hold and play their hand drums.

Elson, Ethan, Josiah, Londell and Daniel played and sang several songs throughout the program, which included hoop dancing, a color guard and speeches from DOI leadership. Their beautiful music added a unique element to the day and showcased the Bureau of Indian Education’s commitment to high-quality, culturally relevant curriculum.
